Bang A Gong

exploring the music of the ’70’s

About

The 1970’s are often wrongly considered the “low point” in the 50-plus year history of Rock ‘n Roll, something of the weedy swamp on the landscape of rock. I’ve grown tired of hearing this ignorant and “too-easy” notion (besides, I know better…) and am now endeavoring to “blog-out” the ignorance with an exploration of the music of the 1970’s.

Just to be honest and fair here, I will acknowledge the fact that, as in all decades, the 1970’s had its fair share of crappy, sappy, and just plain weird music. I hope to cover much of that right alongside the epic, inspiring, and just plain rockin’. Let it be known that, although I “grew up” in the 1970’s (aged 11 to 21) and hence this music was “my music”, I am by no means expounding the idea that the 70’s were “the greatest musical decade”. In fact, they all have been in their own way. More….
